Wildcats bumped in first round of baseball playoffs
After a fourth-place finish in the Smoky Mountain Conference standings, the Andrews Wildcats hit the road last week, looking to make the best of their playoff experience.
Their first obstacle were the Queen’s Grant Stallions. A back-and-forth game in Charlotte ultimately went the way of Queen’s Grant, 10-8.
Despite the loss, Wildcats skipper Tyler Edwards was complimentary of his squad. Andrews finished the season with an overall record of 12-8.
“We’ve hit well all season,” Edwards said. “A couple of mistakes cost us, but all in all, I was proud of the effort all season. They fought tooth-and-nail in every close game. Even when we lost, they kept fighting. I couldn’t be happier about that.”
Colten Weaver and Isaac Aguilar both drove in two runs against the Stallions. Jose Martinez and Matt Barton each hit a two-bagger, while Jack Newton drove in a run, as well.
Barton took the loss, tossing four innings and striking out four batters in the process.
