Mildred Gibby, 89, of Andrews, passed away Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, in a Murphy hospital.
She was a native and lifetime resident of Cherokee County. She was a cook at District Memorial Hospital and had been a member of Faith Baptist Tabernacle. She loved gardening, canning and cooking. She loved her family.
Mildred was the daughter of the late Bascomb and Oma Lee Hogan McLean, and the wife of the late Haskel Drake Gibby, who died May 1, 2011. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Bradley and Sandra Leming; a grandson, Jarod Bradley; and a granddaughter, Shenna Gibby.
Surviving are seven daughters, Betty Moose of Gastonia, Nellie Gilreath of Jonesborough, Tenn., Alice Bradley and husband Ronnie of Andrews, Janet Stone and husband Roger of Gastonia, Vickie Roberts and husband Lamar of Andrews, Patricia Aiken and husband Reggie and Rachel Frady, all of Gastonia; two sons, Lennox Gibby and wife Stacy and Jerry Gibby, all of Gastonia; 30 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home in Andrews with the Rev. Jerry Tatham officiating.
Interment was in Valleytown Cemetery in Andrews. Pallbearers were Johnny and James McLean, and Gerald, Bobby, Anthony and Jonathan Hedden.
The family received friends from noon-1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Ivie Funeral Home in Andrews prior to the service.
